ICT as Medium for Advocacy


How Information and Communications and Technology (ICT) has transformed the educational methodologies when you were in grade school and now in Senior High School?

            The educational methodologies have upgraded and are more advanced now in Senior High School. When I was in grade school – only a small partial subject was discussed about ICT. It only gives an outlook and visualizes fundamental topics about computers and technology, and no further more action and learnings about it.

       In the class of my 7th grade, we were introduced to ICT and educated on how to utilized & operate computers and Microsoftware before. In my current grade-level now as a STEM senior high school student, the education system has improvised and become more innovative & progressive since the school let their students' knowledge and learning in ICT applied in real action and made an output. We learn more effectively by providing us and our teachers with access to a wide range of new pedagogy. These technologies are also being used to enable teachers and students to do administrative tasks more efficiently. ICT in senior high is the new medium and mode of education that use to support, enhance, and optimize the delivery of information and content like how we execute and work in fulfilling the purpose and the objective of the topic–making website in wix.com and blog in blogger.com, mail merge in a word document, basic elements in excel, and hyperlink in PowerPoint.


        ICT in Senior High School has become the best strategical teaching methods that prepare us for an integrated society dominated by ICT developments as much as the global now is independent of technologies & multimedia and equips the pupils with advanced skills in computer systems, programming, creating web pages, and basic animation. In general, ICT transformed into a new development of educational methodologies that lead us as a student with improved learning and attainment levels. Preparing us to learn the notion of using ICT as a tool for lifelong learning.


Consider the following for comparison:


(I compare these given things and situations through the context of ICT.)

 

a. The singing of the national anthem:


         In modern ways, the singing of the national anthem has now improved in terms of equipment. In outdoor places, laptops & speakers are used to play the song and the conductor usually uses a microphone and standing in front while other people arrange themselves in lines or organized in a group. Before starting, putting the hand in the chest is a must then sing in chorus. While in indoor, the conduct national anthem is the same practice in outdoor but it is also advised to use visual aids on the TV screen.


b. Concept notes: 


        With ICT, we usually take concept notes, the summarization of a particular content we encountered or studied through encoding into the document, cellphone notes, voice mail/recorder, taking pictures as an attachment, and online outlining.


c. Presentation of visual aids:


         Traditionally, it is common to write the text presentation on manila paper and colored cartolina, sometimes it is encoded and printed into tarpaper. Recently, in the digital era, we often used PowerPoint and virtual presentations in advantages to using some video clips and simulations on a laptop connected with a big screen of television through HDMI and overhead projectors. In other cases, interactive boards are also used and utilizing cellphone through share screen.


d. Class record:


          Before, the usual equipment for recorded grades, requirements, etc. was a class record notebook/book or journal book. Currently, the school and other people were advised to practice the used of electronic or computerized recorder through encoding data in Microsoft excel to have organized, neat and accurate results or complete sort of sheet grades.


e. Class dismissal:


         Before and now, the same practices and routines are followed. At the end of the lesson period, the teacher says" class dismissed" and the students bow and say in chorus “Maraming Salamat po Ma’am/Sir!” to practice politeness, gratitude, and respect to the professor.


f. Assignment & Research


           The old style of taking information and studying academic subjects was dependent on books wherein it is considered a struggle for students since not all information needed is found in 1 book and results in forcing pupils to buy more and more books. Book has a small scope of a particular subject. The Digital era brought the modern way to do assignments and research since surfing on internet is the easiest accessible and convenient way to search & gather knowledge as it provides a vast and immense field of research papers, subject matter, tutorial, virtual classes, thesis, books, news, and many more. Furthermore, due to the recent pandemic, assignments, and requirements are now done on electronic devices through passing it in Gmail, Google Drive, and Messenger.
